On rain, the internet and poor blogging techniques
Ah, the Scottish summertime. One moment, it is but a little cloudy, the next, the heavens have opened and the gutters are overflowing.
It's getting kind of late now. The rain's gone off and I doubt I could have talked about it for a whole post anyway. I present instead, a mercifully (for all involved) short section on something that has been bugging me.
Trailers are a common thing in the world of video games. When a trailer is released, flame wars will erupt over whether it is pre-rendered or not (interestingly, if there is enough doubt to cause such a war, the footage is almost certainly in-engine) and people will either praise or insult the game based on a few minutes of footage and a tag line. But something else has cropped up now and again, which truly gets under my skin, as people make a snap decision and refuse to admit that they are wrong.
Videos on the internet, particularly embedded, streamed ones, tend to be low resolution, for obvious reasons. However, upon seeing a low resolution video of a game, many people will judge the whole game on the poor quality footage. They make quips about the graphics and try to turn it into a reason to hate whatever console or platform they are already biased against.
Then, when a better quality video appears, they either continue to complain or fall silent.
I don't know how widespread this problem is but I've seen it and it just serves to remind me that people are, on the whole, idiots. Especially on the internet.
Forgot the woodle again. Oh, well.
